Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
