2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Poor Response
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a more defined vision.
The president noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the full text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue seeing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.
David
Background of the New Head

He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Details and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and tests that shift every match. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can expect additional details as production advances.
